Is Junk Food Really Cheaper?
The answer is NO.
The “fact” that junk food is cheaper than real food has become a reflexive part of how we explain why so many Americans are overweight, particularly those with lower incomes. I frequently read confident statements like, “when a bag of chips is cheaper than a head of broccoli …” or “it’s more affordable to feed a family of four at McDonald’s than to cook a healthy meal for them at home.”
Blah blah blah, I work hard so I don’t want to cook, blah blah blah, I don’t know where YOU shop but around here, blah blah blah, this is fat-shaming…think that covers all the arguments. That said, vegetables and most grains are cheap as hell if you avoid that organic bullshit.
The stages of starting a tumblr shit-storm
Stage 1: Stand firm: “I don’t care what people think, I stand by what I said”
Stage 2: Condesension: “People don’t have anything better to do than shit on my post”
Stage 3: Clarifying: “See, when I said that, what I actually meant was…”

Stage 5: Guilt-trip: “I hope you’re all happy putting me through all this!”
Stage 6: Sleep on it: “I’m going to bed, y’all have fun”
Stage 7: Pleading: “I’M SORRY OK!?”
Stage 8: Deletion of blog
